Description
The California poppy (Eschscholzia Californica) was designated the state flower of California in 1903. Also known as the flame flower, la amapola, and copa de oro (cup of gold), the poppy grows wild throughout California. California Indians valued the poppy as a food source and for the oil extracted from the plant.
Gold is a theme in California symbols: the state colors are blue and gold, the state nickname is The Golden State, and gold is the official state mineral.

I LOVE poppies. We do not get many here, on the other side of the country, but sometimes. This is one gorgeous capture, and i cannot believe how they are growing so wild and free and so beautifully!! Would be heavenly to be in a field of poppies, wow. Super capture.
